CEG organised 32 work parties at 20 different sites in Chesham with an average attendance of 15 people
CEG regularly attracted volunteers coming from as far away as High Wycombe and Pinner (thanks to a geo caching group joining us).
Amazingly we even had visiting volunteers from Scotland and Canada (we looked after their suitcases during the work party).
Work Hours
CEG volunteers have put in a total of 1,500 person hours of work, incl. meetings and admin (eg. repairing tools, applying for grants)
This is roughly 1 full time equivalent (FTE), built up of a wide range of expertise from working and retired professionals, who have been trained to undertake environmental tasks such as managing biodiversity projects, treating non-native invasive species, assessing Duke of Edinburgh students, giving educational talks at other group meetings, at schools, and at citizen science meetings. At a basic pay scale SCP3 (admin support level) this saves the Council an estimated £30K/year, but possibly may be double this amount based upon the skills of our volunteers
Litter Collection
CEG volunteers litter picked 400 bin bags of litter (50% sorted into recyclables) + larger fly-tipped items, including a burgled 40kg safe.
This is enough to fill 5 “mega” skips (8-yard size). For skip size information, see tj-waste.co.uk
Supporting Others
CEG has supported 6 Duke of Edinburgh students to achieve their bronze awards
This includes lending these students equipment to use outside of our work parties (litter pickers, high vis jackets and gloves).
CEG promotes the work of other groups (eg. Chiltern Society, River Wardens, and Scottowes Pond cleaning) and provides CEG volunteers.
